The Purpose of the Trust is to fund various projects of all public service members for their benefit.
How it began
- The Government of Belize had initiated an increment freeze that lasted from 1995 to 1997
- The Public Service Union and the Belize National Teachers Union negotiated with the Government for Compensation
- The government offered the Unions 480,000 “B” shares in Belize Telemedia Limited
- No dividends were paid on the shares as BTL increased the number of shares instead of paying dividends and they continued to accumulate (currently stands at 794,732 shares)
- In 2007 Government released the accumulated funds it had in its savings account to the unions.
- In 2013 the Trust Deed was finalized and in 2014 the Trust became operational
